[PHAN NGUYEN CHARITY FUND] "The Journey of Love" - First Trip to A Lu/Y Ty, Lao Cai

On September 21-22, 2024, the Phan Nguyen Charity Fund team successfully completed the first "Journey of Love" with the mission: to bring love, share difficulties both spiritually and materially with the people of A Lu and Y Ty communes in Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province, helping them recover and rebuild their lives after Typhoon YAGI (Storm No. 3). The Phan Nguyen Charity Fund distributes gifts to the people in A Lu commune Why did Phan Nguyen Charity Fund choose A Lu Commune, Bat Xat District, Lao Cai Province as the destination for relief efforts? The goal of the Charity Fund is to reach areas where people are in dire need of help but have not yet received significant support from other relief groups. A Lu Commune, Bat Xat District, was selected for this trip as a meaningful connection for the Fund. With the assistance of local friends and officials, the Charity Fund team gained a comprehensive understanding of the damage and specific needs of each commune, allowing them to target their relief efforts. Among the suggested locations, the team chose A Lu Commune, as it was one of the most severely affected areas in Bat Xat District. Moreover, the road to the commune had only been cleared 1-2 days before the team set out, meaning few other relief groups had been able to reach it. What are the most practical gifts for the people of A Lu Commune? The road to A Lu is extremely challenging, and even in dry weather, it's difficult to traverse. The situation becomes much worse during rainstorms and landslides. Before setting off, the Charity Fund team was concerned about unfavorable weather forecasts, so they had to constantly monitor the weather and the accessibility of routes into the commune's center. The muddy, soft road is still wet from the continuous rain While essential supplies were desperately needed, transporting truckloads of goods would have been difficult due to the poor road conditions. After discussions with local officials, the team decided to travel using two 4-wheel-drive pickup trucks with limited cargo space, making it crucial to prioritize practical but compact donations for the local people. The support provided to the people of A Lu by the Charity Fund included: Number of households supported: 128 Total cash support: 108,000,000 VND 02 households with fatalities: 3,000,000 VND/household = 6,000,000 VND 26 households severely affected by housing damage (collapsed or heavily destroyed homes): 2,000,000 VND/household = 52,000,000 VND 100 households with lighter damage: 500,000 VND/household = 50,000,000 VND Value of donated goods (necessities such as cooking oil, spices, noodles, soap, peanuts, bread) = 19,400,915 VND Total support budget: 127,400,915 VND Thanks to the help and organization from local officials, the distribution of gifts went smoothly and orderly. The Phan Nguyen Charity Fund donated money and supplies to support 100 households affected by the damage in A Lu Village Community Center The Phan Nguyen Charity Fund donated money and supplies to support 28 households severely affected by the damage in Ngai Thau Village. The Phan Nguyen Charity Fund donated supplies to support the Mò Phu Chai - Y Ty Elementary School. The gifts were carefully packaged. We hope that with the love, compassion, and support from people across the country, we can help to alleviate some of the losses in lives, homes, and crops for the people of A Lu and Y Ty communes specifically, and the Northern mountainous region in general. May they leave behind the pain and loss to resume their daily lives and look toward the future. We hope to see the beautiful Y Ty – the "Cloud Paradise" with its terraced fields – restored soon, with improved roads to make it easier for visitors to return. Phan Nguyen is honored to be one of the 16 organizations awarded the "Organic Products for Community Health" gold cup by the Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association.  On November 26th, 2022, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association (VOAA) organized the second commemoration ceremony of its 10th anniversary and outstanding examples in the development of organic agriculture quality. The event was attended by 80 representatives from across the country. On November 26th, 2022, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association (VOAA) organized a ceremony to commemorate its 10th anniversary and outstanding examples of organic agriculture development quality for the second time with the participation of 80 representatives from across the country. The VOAA was established by the Ministry of Internal Affairs at a time when organic agriculture in Vietnam had not yet been formed. After 10 years of development, the association has led the strong development of organic agriculture in Vietnam with the goal of reaching the level of advanced countries in the world. At the ceremony, the VOAA awarded gold cups, silver cups, and certificates of merit to outstanding examples of organic agriculture development quality. To receive the "Organic product for community health" cup, the product must meet strict criteria for organic production throughout the entire process from production to consumption, and ensure traceability of the product origin. Earth Day originated in the United States as a day dedicated to raising awareness and recognizing the value of Earth's natural environment. On March 21, 1970, John McConnell, a sociologist, initiated and proposed Earth Day as a way to honor and celebrate the Earth. The movement gained support from the city of San Francisco and later from the then Secretary-General of the United Nations, U Thant. Fifteen years after retiring, in 1995, Nelson was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bill Clinton for his tireless efforts in environmental protection and safeguarding the Earth. Initially, Earth Day was only known in the United States until Denis Hayes, the national coordinator, elevated the event to an international level in 1990 by co-organizing a series of commemorative events in 141 countries. Currently, Earth Day is globally coordinated by the Earth Day Network and celebrated annually in over 192 countries. By 2009, April 22nd of each year was officially declared by the United Nations General Assembly as International Mother Earth Day or Earth Day. What is considered a "green product" in the green consumption ecosystem? "Green products" encompass all products for human consumption in various industries such as food, cosmetics, household care, healthcare, and appliances. These products are manufactured using natural and organic ingredients that are less harmful to the environment and human health. Organic products are a prime example of green products. The production process of organic products ensures the absence of five major components: no pesticides, no chemical fertilizers, no genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and no herbicides. Moreover, most organic food production facilities and farms utilize renewable energy sources to minimize atmospheric pollution, restoring the most natural state to the Earth. How are organic products distinguished from other products? Organic products are those that undergo strict scrutiny and are certified to meet organic standards by reputable organic organizations worldwide, such as the USDA in the United States, the EU in Europe, AB in France, JAS in Japan, KOS in South Korea, and others. When a product receives organic certification, it is not a one-time evaluation but undergoes regular and periodic checks to assess its organic compliance throughout the entire production process. This includes examining the source of ingredients, water, soil, air quality, manufacturing facilities, processing procedures, and packaging. If any aspect fails to meet the organic standards, the final product cannot be labeled as organic. Hence, if a product is claimed to be organic or sourced from organic ingredients by a company but lacks certification from reputable organizations on its packaging, it cannot be considered an organic product. Every year on April 7th, the World Health Organization celebrates World Health Day, with the aim of drawing global attention to the importance of global health, a topic of utmost significance. World Health Day is one of the World Health Organization's (WHO) eight global public health campaigns. Originating in 1948, which is also the year WHO was established, World Health Day is organized to raise awareness and promote understanding about health issues, seeking the support of all countries in addressing global health challenges. The theme of World Health Day 2022 is "Our planet, our health," calling on the world to recognize that "We have only one planet. We need it. And it needs us. With the consumption needs of nearly 8 billion people around the world, the Earth has gradually become depleted of resources, heavily polluted environment, and destroyed the habitats of other animal species. Moreover, human beings indirectly suffer the consequences of natural disasters, droughts, and especially food and consumer goods becoming toxic due to farming practices, water sources, and climate change caused by human destruction. Therefore, to protect "Our planet, our health", let's become smart, green consumers to ensure our health and protect the environment. So what is green consumption? Green consumption is the use and promotion of products that are environmentally friendly, safe for human health, and do not threaten the functions or diversity of natural ecosystems. Green consumption is currently a trend among consumers worldwide and is seen as a standard in the production of products for human use. Consumers are now willing to pay more to own organic products that meet sustainable production standards. What is considered a "green product" in the green consumption ecosystem? A green product encompasses all products for human use in every industry such as food, cosmetics, household care, health care, and appliances, that are produced from natural and organic ingredients that have minimal impact on the environment and human health. Organic products, or organic goods, are one of the typical green products. The production process of organic products ensures the use of five NOs: NO pesticides, NO chemical fertilizers, NO genetically modified components, NO herbicides. Moreover, most organic food production factories and farms use renewable energy to minimize air pollution and return nature to its original state. Consuming organic products also brings many health benefits to humans. Certified organic products have a higher nutritional value of 15-20% and do not contain harmful ingredients for health compared to conventional products. They are produced through the most natural methods using clean and sustainable sources of land, water, air, and ingredients. How to differentiate organic products from other products? Organic products are those that have been strictly verified and certified as organic by reputable organic organizations around the world, such as USDA (US), EU (Europe), AB (France), JAS (Japan), KOS (Korea), and others. Products that are certified organic are not only evaluated initially, but they are also regularly checked to assess the organic level throughout the entire production process, from raw materials, water, land, air, to the production plant, processing, and packaging procedures. If any of these factors do not meet the organic standard, the final product will not be labeled as organic. Therefore, if any product is claimed by a business to be organic or has organic-sourced ingredients, but the packaging of the product does not have a label certified by reputable organizations, then that product cannot be considered as organic.
